F A Q ' s - Frequently Asked Questions

Why store with Kenly Mini-Storage?

We are locally owned & operated and available to respond quickly when a need comes up.  Our business hours are 8am-6pm Monday-Friday, 9am-3pm Saturday, closed on Sunday.  Gate access hours are 6am-9pm, 7 days a week.  We take pride in keeping our facility clean, secure and well-maintained.  Our access gate stays closed at all times, which means only current customers with a private access code can get in.  This greatly increases safety and security while on-site for you as well as for your stored items.

How and when can I rent a storage unit?

Simply reserve online at this website by selecting the "Unit Sizes" tab, then “Rent Now” if that unit size is available.  We normally respond right away during telephone business hours, which are Mon-Fri, 8am-6pm & Sat 9am-3pm.  Or you may call us at 919-284-5000 during those same hours to reserve a unit by phone.  Upon reserving online or calling, then texting a photo of your valid ID, we initially approve the rental, then text simple instructions on how to complete the rental process.  This includes how to obtain, sign and submit your rental agreements before moving in.  A reserved unit is not officially rented or to be occupied until after we receive completed and signed rental agreements in our drop box.  Upon arrival at our facility, this simple process only takes about 10 minutes before moving any items in the unit.

Where is your office?  Can I rent or pay in person?

There is not an office for in-person rentals and there are no employees, although our facility is monitored closely.  We have successfully done contactless rentals for over 25 years, long before Covid-19.  ALL aspects of storing at this facility, making payments, etc. can be handled easily by accessing your storage account online and communicating with us via phone, text and e-mail.  Of course, exceptions apply for persons with disabilities or one with a unique situation requiring assistance - please call to arrange a mutually convenient time.  We perfected the remote rental process many years ago and we have served hundreds of satisfied customers without the need for an office or hired help.

What about security?  How safe are my belongings?  Why are gate hours 6am-9pm daily?

Our storage facility is closely monitored locally and access is for customers only.  And every rented unit requires a disc padlock that cannot be cut with bolt-cutters.  Some area facilities leave their gates open for anyone to enter. They also allow the use of cheap padlocks which can be cut easily with bolt-cutters.  This is what invites unit break-ins because it only takes seconds to get in and cut those locks and get inside the storage units.  Not so with private gate codes and disc locks!  Every storage unit we rent conveniently includes a new, never-used disc padlock with 2 keys for the wholesale price of only $10 incl. tax with 2 complimentary keychains.  If you already have a disc padlock, simply let us know and we'll issue a $10 credit once you rent and return the padlock to a designated location.  Limiting gate access hours to 6am-9pm daily meets the needs of 99% of our customers and is a proven way to maximize security for this location.  Simply contact us before you rent if this is of any concern.  Of course, having made every effort to provide a safe and secure facility, all units are rented "as is" and no warranties exist as to the safety or security of this storage facility.

Why do you ask for a security deposit since many self-storages do not?

It's for YOUR protection as well as ours.  We gladly refund 100% of the security deposit within days of scheduled move-out when simple terms of the rental agreement are met.  It is proven that asking for and holding security deposits until the time of move-out eliminates most problems related to criminal activity, abandonment, unsanitary conditions, insects, rodents, worthless debris and other activities that could be associated with offering cheap move-in deals.

Do you offer the first month free or any discounts?

If current demand is low, we may be able to offer a generous discount for multi-month prepaid rentals, but we do not offer popular bait-and-switch promotions such as “first month free” just to increase our occupancy rate.  If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.  Additional costs to the customer not disclosed with “free month" or "half-month free" promotions often include a non-refundable “admin fee” or “processing fee”.   Also, some self-storages utilize software that automatically increases rental rates within a specified time soon after move-in, which more than makes up for that cheap move-in deal.

What about insurance?

As with any self-storage, no bailment will exist for your stored items at our facility.  We are not a "warehouseman" engaged in the business of storing for hire.  The exclusive care, custody and control of any and all personal property stored in the unit shall remain vested in the Occupant, and all property stored within the unit shall be stored at Occupant's sole risk.  This is why many self-storages now require you to purchase insurance, which often results in an additional fee monthly you didn't know about until time to sign the rental agreement.  We still give our customers a choice to buy or waive insurance according to their own need.  For those who wish to insure their stored goods, we refer a highly-rated company with a proven track record that specializes in quality and affordable self-storage insurance.  Our customers deal with them directly and we receive no commissions or kickbacks.
